Living, Creating, and Belonging at Moon House— Where Artistry, Family, and the Spaces That Hold Us Intertwine

Moon House | A Letter from Sarah

I'm so glad you’re here. If you’re new to this newsletter, I’m Sarah Carter — actor, director, musician, writer, and producer. You can think of me as a narrative alchemist devoted to transforming life into art, and story into healing.

I am CEO of Cheshire Moon Productions (CMP), where imagination takes form. For over two decades, CMP has been the home for my creative work. Today, it has grown into an incubator for independent artists—empowering bold visions, building confidence beyond industry standards, and bridging the gap between personal magic and professional success. With a parallel career as a working actor, I’ve learned to navigate the edge where structure meets soul. I’m proud to support a constellation of artists whose work awakens, transforms, and expands what’s possible.

I’m also a co-founder and curator of Petits Salons, intimate Monday-night gatherings on the rooftop of Hollywood’s Petit Ermitage Hotel, where music, film, and conversation open doors to connection and continued success for independent artists.

Whether you’ve just arrived or you’ve traveled with me for years, thank you. I’m honored to share this corner of the world with you at a time when community support, creativity, freedom, truth, beauty, and togetherness feel more vital than ever.

This newsletter is meant to be a comfort and a spark; a space that holds ideas, opportunities, and stories that invite curiosity, reflection, and creative action. Whether I’m taking you along the festival circuit, sharing our wild nights at Petits Salons, or highlighting our various events; premieres, book launches, sharing circles, and music gatherings, my hope is that as we share these pivotal moments (and their challenges), we feel more connected to what’s possible for ourselves and to what we can co-create together from right where we are with, being who we are, with the abundance right at our finger tips.

A Shifting Lens

Life is expanding, and my perspective with it. I’m learning this journey is less about being fully seen and more about how I see; less about being understood and more about listening to the quiet guidance of intuition and trusting where it leads. The more I follow the thread of my creative vision, the more I notice the subtle ties between us: the small gestures, sparks of insight, and possibilities unfolding in each moment.

I’m practicing how to hold the truth of another while honoring the dignity of my own felt experience, staying with the tension between self and other long enough for it to become a portal to presence, belonging, and creative contribution.

As Proust reminds us, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” Walk with me. Let’s explore, create, and imagine — together.

Welcome to Moon House.

If you know me, you know I’ve always treated life as a living canvas, where art, family, and everyday moments meet. This home — my home, and the spiritual sibling of my production house — is another place where story and connection unfold. It’s where beauty and purpose can coexist; where every choice, from the smallest detail to the largest vision, reflects how we live, love, and belong.

You can follow and share the Moon House series on instagram.

Episode 1 Sarah Carter

This is not a typical renovation; it’s a reclamation:

  • of myself, within my family

  • of beauty, within chaos

  • of creativity, within responsibility

  • of a space that reflects how we truly live and love

As I invite you into the process and introduce the people involved, I hope it inspires a courageous leap in your own life to prioritize beauty and conscious living. In today’s world, peace of mind and a sacred space can be an act of rebellion.

Meet my dear friend Amber Lestrange of Lestrange Living. One of Los Angeles’ most intuitive and artful interior designers, Amber has been my champion and guiding light throughout this marathon renovation journey, which has stretched over a year. Beyond teaching me the subtle language of color, texture, and energetic flow, she’s lifted my spirits through the inevitable growing pains of tearing down walls—both physical and internal.

I waited five years for this house to tell me what it wanted to become. Now, tile by tile, layer by layer, a vision is taking form. It may be the most direct experience I’ve had of my creative process in motion, and I’m as terrified as I am exhilarated to share it. I believe that in the pursuit of beauty we are met by magic and miracles. If we build with love, whatever comes, love is what lasts.

Moon House: Renovation as Rebirth

Moon House is being shaped with local artists, craftspeople, and sustainable brands. Together, we’re creating a home rooted in story, nature, and family; a place that heals, where every choice matters. Like independent filmmaking, every detail counts and everyone has to be committed to the vision for the result to shimmer with the sweat and tears that built it. This is the heart of the Moon House Series, an unfolding design journey you’re invited into.

Meet Cristina Holmes — a dear friend, creative force, and luminous example of devotion to the wild feminine. Her success in the fashion industry, paired with her unwavering commitment to artistry and motherhood, has been a steady source of inspiration. Navigating the industry as a single mother with grace and fire, Cristina embodies resilience, intuition, and elegance. Now, with her artwork becoming a centerpiece in our home, her essence will live within these walls — woven intentionally into the fabric of the space. Her presence warms the soul and deepens the story this home tells: one of artistry, sisterhood, and reverence for the beauty that comes from living in full truth.

Episode 4 Pt 1 Cristina Holmes Art

As an artist and film investor, and as someone well aware of the current state of the world, it hasn’t been easy for me to fully trust in the value of investing in beauty for my home, my family and my community.

Even after making films here with my husband, nurturing our creative circle through Petits Salons, and producing multiple independent films by emerging voices, this renovation has tested me. It has been one of the hardest permissions I’ve ever had to give myself—to pour so much life force into something as sacred and personal as home.

Like independent filmmaking, every detail counts and everyone has to be committed to the vision for the result to shimmer with the sweat and tears that built it. This is the heart of the Moon House Series, an unfolding design journey you’re invited into.

Meet Mary Jane Bolton of Twenty One Tonnes. At Twenty One Tonnes, objects are storytellers. Each piece carries the warmth of human hands, the legacy of families, and the traditions of communities. Clay from local mountains, fibers harvested with care, wood rescued from reforestation projects—these materials are alive with meaning, connecting people, place, and history.

Founded by childhood friends Mary Jane Bolton and Chessa Osburn, Twenty One Tonnes bridges traditional craft with contemporary design, honoring ancestral techniques while creating objects that feel both timeless and modern. They intentionally collaborate with women, small family workshops, and indigenous communities in Ghana, Mexico, Japan, and Colombia. Every piece is rooted in thoughtful design, ethical practice, and deep respect for culture and craft.

For me, partnering with Twenty One Tonnes is a philosophy in action. Each piece embodies hands, hearts, and histories, reminding us that design is most powerful when human-centered, ethically grounded, and connected to the stories of those who create it.

It takes a village.

It’s worth the work it takes to meet every challenge with a high standard. Especially when you know you will be stronger for the connection on the other side. Meet our brilliant project manager Kate Bruno on Moon House Episode 5 Pt 1 Bixby Design Group

Our amazingly talented contractor Eran Shapov is an absolute warrior. Eran and his family at Superior Home Remodeling have had a hugely positive impact elevating this project and our lives. They have made a destructive process as exciting and constructive as it could possibly be. Meet Eran and his family on Moon House Episode 2 Superior Home Remodeling

I hope this series reminds us that beauty opens hearts and connects us to the mystery of life… what moves us, what makes us feel inspired, and at peace.

I’m so grateful to my friend, photographer, and cinematographer Adam Petrishin for capturing the unfolding of Moon House.

As the house returns to its original nature, everyone who touches recognizes their own direction toward their intrinsic place within the fabric of life, and their opportunity to radiate their natural light like it’s their job.

Culturally, we’ve forgotten that beauty calls to beauty. And when what’s inside is welcomed to shine, the material world shifts — from natural to supernatural.

A huge thank-you to Kelsey Lansdowne (@kelseyraelansdowne) — our producer, videographer, director, editor, and social media genius — for bringing the Moon House social series to life.

Community: Storytelling as Belonging

Alongside my work as an artist, my deepest calling is community building. Through Cheshire Moon and Petits Salons, I’ve spent years curating gatherings where authenticity, artistry, vulnerability, and the healing arts become the fabric of connection.

Now, I’m launching Every Act Is a Creative Act: a workshop blending embodiment, archetype, and group witnessing. We’ll move through ritual, shadow integration, intuitive storytelling, and healing practices to reclaim voice, align with creative truth, and cultivate belonging through shared practice.

And yes, many of these gatherings will one day be held at Moon House. A home for family, stories, rituals, and conversations that remind us we’re all walking each other home.

A Gentle Invitation

I see this work as threads in one tapestry — a life devoted to storytelling, craft, and connection. I’d love for you to be part of it.

  • What sparks your imagination about home, beauty, and storytelling?

  • What kinds of gatherings make you feel most connected and alive?

  • How might a home become a vessel for community, creativity, and shared moments?

Your reflections mean so much. Share them with us or simply carry these questions with you as you follow along.

As the world as we once knew it continues to crumble, Moon House is an invitation to reimagine how we create, gather, and love, together.
