Funds for Anka and Marek’s Healing and Stability

Dear Community,

Just a couple of weeks ago, at Christmastime, our dear friend Anka and her son Marek lost Marek's father Wayne, suddenly and traumatically, while traveling in Poland.

What initially seemed like an acute illness escalated with shocking speed, and turned out to be an extremely aggressive, late-stage cancer. Within days, Anka and Marek's lives were turned upside down.

Wayne passed away in the hospital on January 10th, 2026, leaving Anka and Marek in deep grief - and facing significant financial strain. Wayne had no life insurance, and major hospital and burial expenses piled up quickly, all at a moment when Anka's focus should be on mourning and supporting her child through immense and shocking loss.

Those of us who know Anka know that she has always been strong and self-reliant - an amazing cinematographer who travels the world and leads film crews with grounded power and kindness. Asking for help is not easy for her. But in this moment, she needs us, her community, to show up.

The goal of this fundraiser is to raise $30,000 to help Anka cover:

  • Hospital and medical bills.

  • Funeral and cremation expenses.

  • Immediate living support while Anka stabilizes work and care for Marek.

These funds will help bridge the gap so Anka can grieve, support her son, and regain her footing without the added weight of money stress.

If you are able to contribute, any amount is deeply appreciated. If not, sharing this fundraiser or simply holding Anka and Marek in your thoughts is beautiful help too.

With gratitude,

Anka's friends

On a Personal Note

Since directing In Her Name, becoming a producer, a writer, a community builder, and an even more devoted artist has been the ironic byproduct of focusing my energy on designing and renovating Moon House.

Petits Salons has grown exponentially over the past year and a half, I’ve found an extraordinary tribe of actors to work with weekly in the theater, and the projects and people I’ve poured into have become more and more relevant.

The expansion was so great that by the end of 2025, I experienced very real burnout, which I’m only now beginning to recover from. I share this because I believe self-care, home, and devotion to personal peace take real courage when we are faced with so much violence and need for reform.

I bought this home shortly before the pandemic, as the systems we had all taken for granted began breaking down and revealing deep cultural injustices. In a time of uncertainty and unsafety, Moon House became my attempt to build something grounding where I could reset my nervous system, where Alice could thrive and play with her friends, where we could bring our huge family together to celebrate, plant lemon trees, and welcome our community around what I value most: creativity, inclusivity, beauty, freedom, and healing.

Over time, it’s become clear that this work is part of a larger mission: to practice and inspire conscious investment, and to create beautiful opportunities for people to gather, create, and experience personal freedom within safe community. I’m deeply moved by the relationships that have grown through Moon House and Petits Salons, and I remain committed to supporting courage and connection through beauty, truth, and joy.

One thing I’m learning to integrate into every moment is this: it will never be quite like this again. Slow down. Write the poem. Nothing is linear. Everything is connected. Make peace.

We look forward to continuing to build Moon House with people and partners we want to support and share our hearts with.

Love.
